
You’ve likely heard the phrase we teach what we need to learn.
While I’m shy about admitting it – when it comes to my passion for the You Matter Marathon, it’s likely true.
As I mentioned in my TED talk, for years I struggled with what I call, “contingent mattering” – believing that I mattered only if I was a size 2, only if I was always kind, only if I made a six-figure salary. Maybe you can relate.
I had conflated my worth with my accomplishments which led to unhealthy striving, anxiety and depression. Not fun.
Now, after spending over a decade championing the You Matter message and personally sharing thousands of You Matter cards, I finally get it! I matter! Not because of what I do or how I make anyone else feel – I matter because I’m a human being. End of story. Beginning of freedom.
